Rose as voice teacher

Under the tutelage of Jared Trudeau and Kevin Wilson, Rose infuses her voice teaching with knowledge of anatomy and physiology, comparative pedagogy, voice and speech, and acting. Her teaching philosophy is in pursuit of the creation of a holistic artist. Ultimately she aims to empower her students to achieve functionality and sustainability suited to serve their individual storytelling.

Rose is currently an Adjunct Vocal Instructor at Pace University and Marymount Manhattan College, and also an Associate Teacher at BroadwayVox in New York City. Her research presentation entitled “Black Intersectional Identity and Vocal Expectations: Incompatibility Between Musical Theatre Voice Training and Industry Standards for Black Singers” has been seen at several vocal pedagogy conferences including MTEA and PAVA, and will present at NATS in 2024. She was awarded Best Student Oral Research Presentation at the PAVA conference in September, 2023.

Educational credits include a Master of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre Vocal Pedagogy from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, courses at the Shenandoah CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute with Matthew Edwards and Edrie Means-Weekly, as well as studying under Broadway vocal coach/consultant Amanda Flynn (Lightning Thief, Be More Chill). She is an active member of Music Theatre Educators’ Alliance (MTEA) and Pan American Vocology Association (PAVA).

Rose works frequently as a guest voice teacher in NYC with Actor Therapy (Lindsay Mendez, Ryan Scott Oliver) and Innovative Voice Studio (Jenna Pastuszek, Tim Russell). She aided in the Broadway re-opening of Waitress (starring Sara Bareilles), where she would often lead vocal warm-ups for the cast. Rose has also given masterclasses at various institutions around the country, including Suffolk University, Sarah Lawrence College, and Slippery Rock University.

Rose’s students can be seen on CBS, Broadway, off-Broadway, and on national and international tours. She maintains an active private studio in both Boston and New York. For more information or to set up a lesson, please click the button below.

I love taking voice lessons with Rose! She is an extremely talented, intuitive instructor who not only has a wealth of knowledge to share with me every lesson, but constantly seeks out more information to personalize her instruction with each student. I am constantly floored by her creativity and trouble shooting which has helped me break through many unhelpful habits. I would not be the singer I am today without Rose’s guidance.

I’m deeply grateful for Rose’s patience and encouragement. I’m not a trained singer, but Rose always treated and taught me with such grace and clarity that I developed the confidence to accept and own my singing voice. So much so, that I landed a cover of La Chocolat in the Moulin Rouge! The Musical in Australia. Thank you Rose!
— Anica Scott-Garrell, Moulin Rouge! The Musical (Australia)
Rose Van Dyne not only transformed my voice, but also my entire view on the voice. She teaches with such ease and continues to guide me to exploration of my instrument.
She helped me truly rediscover my love for singing.
I am so grateful for her excellent guidance and highly recommend her to singers and anyone that wants to learn more about their voice.
